Daily Asia Power Energy, Septyember 13, 2008 - Thailand natural gas power obsessed
"Thailand natural gas power obsessed"
This has been stories discussed in this articles since long time before. Thailand's power generation in the 1980s mainly depended on the northern coal-fired, and low-cost power supply has been given. Since the 1990s, the Gulf of Thailand's natural gas-based power generation has been on the rise, reaching to 70% of gas-fired power generation in the system. It is becoming a growing concern.
Thailand is now political turmoil and one of our "four-man Asian Development", Samak, prime minister of Thailand was forced to resign, it is very sad for us. Instead, one of Nepal's rough man, Prachannda, the prime minister is set off on his first visit to India.
Now, Thailand's natural gas, many times mentioned in this HP. The gas potential of the Gulf of Thailand is about 15 trillion cubic feet tcf and already 4 tcf has been consumed. Now state and conflicts in Cambodia near the border, 5 tcf of potential has been said. Thailand is also expecting Myanmar gas very much, but, and finally started preparations for LNG imports.
Today, it is reported that the Thai Natural gas prices rose and, due to an automatic rule, electricity prices in October will rise. The first phase is 200 baht per million Btu (5.65 dollars) increased to 230 baht (5.76 dollars) up for the automatic adjustment.
As a result, in October to next January, electricity rates are automatically adjusted to increase KWh 0.40 baht (1.15 cents) and current value is 0.6285 baht (1.81 cents), totally 1.0285 baht (2.96 cents). The Basic Price is 2.25 baht (6.48 cents), and the total will be baht 3.2785 (9.44 cents).
Recently, the Tanghhu Indonesia's LNG price is said to 20 dollars, with the story, and natural gas in India is finally to 10 dollars to come out of the line. Though recent oil prices how it affects in the future not know yet, the Gulf of Thailand with increased depletion of natural gas, 70 percent rely on natural gas and electricity in Thailand have a tough road ahead.
However, being very cleverly, power prices have been rising to 10 cents. We are appalling with a look at the clever trick. And, come this far, Laos hydroelectric, at least 6 cents and 7 cents, to be able to buy, we would think like that. However, we are also hoping Cambodia's large-scale coal thermal development plan for Thailand so smoothly.
