●India to Name NHPC Director, Paving Way for IPO by September

The Indian government will “soon” appoint an independent director to the board of NHPC Ltd., paving the way for the country’s largest hydroelectric generator to sell shares by September, the power secretary said. “The government has finalized the name of an independent director who will be appointed soon,” H.S. Brahma said in a brief interview at the ministry in New Delhi today. “The company is readying for the initial public offer by September.”

In a move that could reduce power shortage in Maharashtra, the state power generation company Mahagenco has decided to set up a 1,320 mega watt greenfield thermal power project at Dondaiche near Dhule. Confirming this, Mahagenco managing director Subrat Ratho told ET that the power generation firm has submitted a proposal to this effect to the state government.
