●Melting glaciers bring Delhi and Beijing to table

Jairam Ramesh, India's environment minister, said that, as part of a scientific investigation into the health of what are called the Water Towers of Asia, academic research bodies on both sides of the mountain range would share information. He also told the Financial Times that New Delhi was open to a dialogue about water resources with Beijing, saying the two countries shared concerns.

Residents make their way along a flooded street after monsoon rain in Amritsar. The annual monsoon season, which runs from June to September, brings rains that are vital to agriculture.

●He Protests Too Much India is already going green

Hillary Clinton's meeting with Jairam Ramesh was an awkward moment in an otherwise smooth visit to India last month. The Indian environment minister lectured Clinton that India would not commit to cuts in its emissions of the gases that cause global warming. India has other priorities, he said, such as getting electricity to 400 million poor people in the hinterlands.
