●Kepco to use ‘smart grid’ in RP

THE LOCAL SUBSIDIARY OF SOUTH KOrea-based firm Korea Electric Power Corp. (Kepco) yesterday revealed it was eyeing to use the so-called “smart grid” technology in the Philippines, through its planned renewable energy projects. Smart grid refers to the incorporation of information technology into an existing power network, making a two-way information exchange between suppliers and consumers possible.

●'Laiban dam project OK but not take-or-pay’

The proposed $1-billion Laiban dam project is a welcome initiative to ensure a long-term bulk water supply for Metro Manila but consumers will benefit most from an arrangement without a take-or-pay provision, officials of water distribution concession Maynilad Water Services Inc. said.
Under a take-or-pay scheme, water distributors Maynilad and Manila Water Services Inc. will have to pay the source for a minimum water supply volume whether or not the volume is consumed.
